Hiring for your preschool? Write the role like this

The same vacancy, written two ways, gets very different numbers of applications. Toggle between the two versions below.

We read a lot of preschool job adverts. The difference between one that fills in a week and one that sits for a month is rarely the salary — it is how much guessing the advert asks a candidate to do.

The same role, two ways

Teacher required — Bengaluru

Reputed preschool seeks passionate and dynamic teachers. Candidate should be energetic, hardworking and good with children. Qualification: NTT / Montessori / ECCE / B.Ed / any graduate. Salary as per industry norms. Flexible timings. Immediate joining.

No locality, no salary, no hours, five qualifications — and every gap is a reason not to apply.

Why the salary band is not optional

An advert without a number is read as a low number. Trained candidates in Bengaluru are usually holding two or three conversations at once, and the one that requires an email to find out the pay loses by default. A band is enough — it does not commit you to the top of it, and it filters out the mismatches before you spend an afternoon on demos.

What to leave out

  • Adjectives about the candidate. Passionate, dynamic and energetic appear in every advert and tell a reader nothing. Describe the classroom instead.
  • A wish list of ten qualifications. Name the one you will actually insist on. Every extra line costs you applications from people who could do the job.
  • Vague hours. Flexible timings reads as unpaid overtime. Give the real start and the real end.

One more thing about distance

If you have a locality, say it in the first line. A teacher's first filter is how far she has to travel, long before qualifications or salary — and a vacancy that only says Bengaluru is competing against every other vacancy in the city instead of being the obvious one nearby. On EduJobs the distance is computed from each teacher's home, which is why openings with a precise location get opened far more often.

How we know this

Drawn from placement practice rather than published research — our own sample of preschool vacancies in Bengaluru.

Every question you leave out of the advert, a good candidate answers with silence.

Where this leads

Train for it, then teach near home

MNTTA awards Montessori and Nursery Teacher Training diplomas. When you have a certificate — from them or from anywhere else — every opening on EduJobs is measured from your own door.
